We all heard that DAOs are transparent at their cores and that decentralization leads to a free flow of information in the organization. In those early conversations, we all agreed that for a community to thrive and to trust individuals, a layer of transparency must be enabled. When the Governance Squad team for the Decentraland DAO was approved and funded by the community, one of the first things we decided that we would put effort into was to increase the participation and to raise the quality bar of the community contributions by improving the way DAO members interacts with each other. This plays out in the data, with land purchases on the platform totalling $88.5 million last year, a 2000% jump on the previous year.

Many headlines have been focusing recently on some of the big ticket transactions that have been taking place for virtual land sales on various Metaverse platforms, including Decentraland and Sandbox amongst others. This increased attention in Decentraland has managed to persist for the past 2 months since that announcement, suggesting that this newfound awareness isn’t just a passing craze, but is likely to persist into 2022 and beyond. Google Trends shows a tight correlation between the rapid growth in people searching Decentraland with the announcement by Mark Zuckerberg back at the end of October, that Facebook would be rebranding as ‘Meta’ in it’s effort to get ahead of the competition and become a dominant player in the Metaverse space. This growth suggests the rising awareness of the Metaverse concept has begun to spread from a niche following into wider circles, albeit with a long way to go yet.
